Chard or Swiss chard is a green leafyvegetable. Chard, like other green leafy vegetables, has highly nutritious leaves, making it a popular component of healthy diets. The leaf blade can be green or reddish in color; the leaf stalks are usually white, yellow, or red. Some rare varieites come in purple.
Do not wash Swiss chard before storing as the exposure to water encourages spoilage. Place chard in a plastic storage bag and wrap the bag tightly around the chard, squeezing out as much of the air from the bag as possible and place in refrigerator's crispers draw.
